Christopher Paris

New to Mooch art is Christopher Paris.  An artist who creates softly detailed and beautiful landscape paintings that depict the best of our countryside.  Having come from a theatrical family Chris has always had an artistic leaning.  His painting has only relatively recently come to the fore returning home to his native Lincolnshire he had a new appreciation of the land.  His paintings are a testament to his life’s journey where he has reach a few conclusions about the world, himself and his art.

“Life for me is about learning, and experiencing, and I have done well at that.  When I was growing up the idea that you made decisions based on the level of power or money you would gain was considered an immoral attitude, and in some way a betrayal of the higher human functions, the true meaning of life.”

“These paintings represent my response to coming home to Lincolnshire in 2008 and realizing that man made things are loud, full of tension, and that cities are a product of a level of self absorption that has been indulged to the point of obsenity.”

His life as a professional artist and teacher sit well with his beliefs and also the many collectors who look forward to his new work.  There is a soft, wistful and often idyllic nature to his work.  The wide open spaces are clearly comforting and familiar.  After many years travelling around the country and indeed the world, Chris’s paintings are a homage to our local landscape.

Lisa Denyer Forest artwork painting

Don't Be Scared I' by Lisa Denyer

Mooch welcomes another new artist this week; Lisa Denyer.

Having graduated in 2009, Lisa is now based in Manchester and has exhibited widely across the region as well as London. Her ethereal interpretations of the natural world and her use of shadows and silhouettes make for intriguing contemplation.

This is a great time to buy into Lisa’s work. With original paintings from just £80, her pieces are affordable, unique, and edgy.

Onto bigger things.

In a bid to become leaner (but not meaner) we will be moving out of our current gallery to focus on the website. To continue to take advantage of the power of the internet and our fabulous website we will be doubling the amount of artists we represent and the amount of artwork we display.

Don’t worry you will still be able to come to our sister company H.Blyth & Co, (the art shop in Stevenson Square) to carry on with any framing requests or pick up any artwork you have paid for. In that respect it is business as usual.

Many customers would like to go direct to the artists and this means that now you can!  Mooch will be increasing the number of artists and artwork on the site to offer you more choice and will put you in touch with the artist if you would like to meet up for a chat.

The beauty of an online gallery is that we can be much more competitive. You can go online, view the work and purchase it. If this isn’t convenient you can also arrange a viewing at H.Blyth & Co.

Unsure whether it fits?

This is the advantage of our no questions and no quibbles returns policy. If for any reason you want to return a piece/s of artwork we will arrange a courier to collect the artwork and you will receive a full refund. Easy.

We will be keeping you updated on new artists that will satisfy your artistic curiosity. We will also be featuring artwork in national shows that you will be able to visit so you can save your eager anticipation for these events. Stay tuned and keep in touch!

Emmesse – News Release – March 2011

Peculiar Cityscapes and Surreal Happenings

Emmesse – ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ – Exhibition

Emmesse portrait

Emmesse

April 14th sees the opening night of a startling new exhibition at Mooch art from Manchester artist Emmesse.

‘A Life Less Ordinary’ is an exhibition of peculiar cityscapes, teaming the unusual with the everyday.  It is also an exhibition of more abstract images, each a piece of social commentary in their own right.  Fascinating and beautiful, these paintings are so unique they are like no other artwork in the county.

Born and bred in Manchester, Emmesse (pronounced ‘MS’) is now 35 and has had to work hard to acquire his reputation.  With an anarchic past, his artworks are borne from experiences, mistakes, and lessons learned.

Emmesse formed his early career on the back of highly-skilled cityscapes.  Aside from this was a darker more surreal side that he kept to himself, believing that galleries and collectors would react badly to it. The result was quite the opposite.

Emmesse - Driven By Numbers

'Driven By Numbers' by Emmesse

Death, addiction, sex, power and capitalism flood his work. He is consumed by the anxiety of his very existence, and the constant puzzle of another dimension.

Humour plays a huge part in his paintings and his ability to view the mundane in a lucid and playful way has earned him a loyal band of collectors; all of whom will be present on the opening night.

This extensive collection of new and previously unseen paintings are a reflection of his character. Emmesse is a subversive artist who makes his point very subtly.  There is no angry provocation at the state of the system.  Top hats, pink foxes, bananas; the figures in the paintings are all used to convey his point.  Take the time to understand their symbolism and you will start to understand the story and the meaning behind it.  Emmesse presents the viewer with an alternative reality and, if only for one fleeting moment, the viewer is obliged to believe in it.

Emmesse - When You're Walking Through Town...

'When You're Walking Through Town And You Have To Stop And Chat But You Really Don't Want To' by Emmesse

Away from his cityscapes, His darker and more autobiographical side presents a whole host of intriguing paintings, completely removed from reality. The collection at firsts seems daunting, overwhelming, but just a few moments spent and the chaos dissipates, leaving a quirky but well-informed comment on our surroundings.

A show not to be missed.
